HP Pavilion dv7t

This series of laptops from HP has just been updated. They start at $799.99 and include some ok video cards. They come with either Mobility Radeon HD 4530 or the HD 4650. I would go for the HD 4650 but they don't compare to other $1000 gaming laptops. According to Notebook Check the two Ati cards aren't even high end.

Netbook for Gaming

I have been reading a great thread over at the Notebook Review forums and I love it. They are talking about which netbook is good for gaming. The consensus seem to agree on the ASUS N10. They talk about overclocking and some games that can play on it including GTA3,GTA Vice City, Fallout 3, Battlefield 2, Red Alert 3, Warcraft 3, and C&C Generals Zero Hour. These are all older games but some still struggle with Intel Integrated graphic cards. So what is the secret of this little gem? It is the Nvidia 9300M GS video card. The Nvidia 9300m gs is not the fastest video card, heck it is only a mid range card according to the Notebook Review chart. But since every other card is Intel Integrated makes this one laptop special. I might get one considering the price, power, and portability.

At $679.99 it costs quite a bit more than most netbooks. But it is cheaper than many notebooks. Here are the specs.

1.6-GHz Intel Atom processor
10-inch (1024 x 600) display
160GB HDD (N10E) / 320GB HDD (N10J)
2GB of RAM
802.11n
Bluetooth
SmartLogon facial recognition
DisplayPort Video Out
ExpressCard slot
Fingerprint reader
Windows Vista (with an option to downgrade to XP)
Switchable Integrated Intel or Nvidia GeForce 9300 MS (with 256 MB of dedicated video memory) graphics (N10J) / Integrated Intel Graphics only (N10E)
6 to 12 hours of battery life with 6-cell battery

Alienware M17

Notebook Check has a review of the Alienware M17. I would rank this as a dream machine and I will never have a chance to buy one. Especially since the one they tested is worth more than four thousand dollars. But it is nice to dream sometimes.

Asus G50Vt Review

There is a new review up for the Asus G50Vt Gaming Notebook. HotHardware.com did a nice review of the Asus G50Vt. They seemed to love the laptop and all of its features. My Fiance will probably be buying one pretty soon so I will be able to take a look at it. I like that they showed how strong the speakers are. This may be the gaming laptop to get. For costing under $1000 this is an amazing laptop.

My Game

Since the title of the blog is Laptop Gamerz then I should talk about the games I play. Right now I am in between games. So to fill the time I have been playing City of Heroes. The benefit of mmos is that I get to play with friends. I play with my cousin and my old friend from high school. I am looking forward to Batman: Arkham Asylum and Ghostbusters. I am so glad that EA doesn't have the license for these games. EA would just screw it up. See you online.

MSI GT627 is nice

The more I read about this laptop the more I like it. NotebookReview.com has a great review of this notebook. The price is right for $1,099.99 at NewEgg. The case looks very nice. I love the NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS which is one of the fastest notebook graphic cards on the market. One awesome feature is a turbo button which overclocks the system. Kevin the author of the article says the keyboard is really cramped. I believe it, they stuck a number keypad on a 15" laptop. The MSI GT627 sounds like a winner. Here are the specs.

• Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26G
• Windows Vista® Home Premium
• 15.4" TFT-LCD Widescreen Display
• Exclusive Turbo Drive Engine Technology
• Exclusive ECO Engine Power Management System
• The Combination of Aluminum and Metallic Threads in Body Design
• nVIDIA Geforce 9800M GS 3D Graphic Card (Build-in DDR3 1GB VRAM)
• 7.1 Channel Output Recognized and Approved by the Highest Standards of Dolby®
• HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) Output
• Built-in 2.0 Mega Pixel Webcam
• 802.11 b/g/n Wireless LAN with Bluetooth

Which card is best?

One difficulty of shopping for a laptop is to find out which video cards are the best. Heck trying to find a laptop that isn't Intel Integrated is a difficult task. The one resource that I have used for a while now is a post on Notebook Review.com. It is continually updated with the latest cards. Here is the post. Any time I want to compare laptops it is the first place I go. Another great resource is NotebookCheck.net. They have detailed reviews of each card. They even have benchmarks.

Affordable Gaming Laptop

At a recent trip to Best Buy I discovered that gaming laptops are really taking off. Now I don't have to drool over the Gateway fx. Now there is an Asus laptop for $949.99. The kicker is the video card rules. The Asus uses a Nvidia GeForce 9800M-GS card which is in the top 5 fastest laptop video cards. It is a great time to be a laptop gamer.
